While I endorse this suggestion, I use this software and I'm even the port maintainer for FreeBSD, I think the OP is asking for something different.

Vchanger is excellent if you rotate disk regularly as a daily/weekly/monthly task.

The OP, however, wants to "replace the disk every now and then and keep the old as an archival copy". I guess "archival copy" means they want Bacula to forget about that disk.
In that case I wouldn't bother with vchanger.

Just swap the disk with a new one; of course Bacula won't be able to restore from any of the volume on that disk, unless you put it back online. Eventually the job/files will be purged from the catalog: in that case using bscan/bextract will be the only way to perform a restore from those volumes.
