I don't know if that would work since I haven't used the old 9.6x bacula
binaries. I do see that the client is only a tiny bit newer than the
server. Personally, I suspect that if the server checks versions, it will
refuse to work. Maybe try to see if a slightly older version of the client
is available with special apt options?

Personally, I would use the latest stable bacula 13.0.4 from the project
official repo, or if you want to try the latest, bacula 15.0.2 beta. I
would do this at minimum for the server. Maybe for convenience use the
system repo on client machines so you don't have to add the repo to all of
your backup targets.

If you want to do cloud stuff, I think 15.x is the best bet. Please be
aware that 13.0.X broke backwards compatibility with older FD/clients, and
this was fixed in 13.0.4.

Go to link below for access to the official repo. Give your first/last name
and email at bottom of page. Should get an email with a custom repo link.
If email doesn't come (happens occasionally), check the page that loads
after you enter your name and email. Look for "You may now access the
bacula binaries located here (please bookmark this link)." The word "here"
will be your custom repo link.

An outdated installation guide is here. substitute your suitable os version
in the repo link demonstrated in this guide, as seen when you browse your
repo link in Firefox, chrome, etc.
