Hi !

I created a pool of three volumes from LTO7 tapes. I used the barcodes
of the tapes which are in ascending order. The tapes were added to the
pool in the same order, so tape 001 has MediaID 1, tape 002 has
MediaID 2 etc. This was done using bacula 11.

Now i started the first backup job on this pool and the data was
stored on the third volume of the pool, with Label 003 and MediaID 3.

Is that the expected behaviour ? I would really prefer if bacula would
start in a defined order. Not sure if MediaID is the right ID to use
thoug, as it gets assigned consecutively to all Volumes from different
pools.

So the question is really:
How can i define use order of yet unused volumes in a pool ?

Any help appreciated,
best regards,
Karl

Hello Karl,

Don't bother. :)

You need to abandon this kind of 1:1 thinking with Bacula.

Just let Bacula manage the tapes as it sees
fit and you will be happier in the end. :)

I am not being silly nor sarcastic. I really am serious. If you try to force
Bacula to work the way you want with regards to
this kind of thing you will be very frustrated.

Hope this helps,
Bill
