It turned out NOT to be a bsockcore issue but rather an issue with grant_mysql_privileges launched on a bacula database created by mariadb.
Adding: dbname = "bacula"; dbuser = "root"; dbpassword = "" to the Catalog directive made bconsole and bat killed the issue. I wonder why this has happened but I run safely with this change and leave it up to someone with knowledge about sql commands to sort the issue with grant_mysql_privileges. -- Erik P.
