Dear All

I have read different discussion about the possibilité to initialise LTO 7
media as a LTO-M8 on a LT8-drive, and I just want to give you my experience on
this point :

1/ Yes, it is possible to re-initialize an old (already use) LTO 7 media as a
LTO-M8 format. But of course you will lose all the data on the tape.
2/ Yes, it is possible to initialise a LTO-7 media as a LTO-M8 in a single
tape drive

For 1 et 2 you have to install xTalk (for me on linux, xTalk Management Console
version 6.8.0.0) .
To install xTalk you have to activate the 32 bit architecture
( for exemple, on ubuntu :
https://askubuntu.com/questions/454253/how-to-run-32-bit-app-in-ubuntu-64-bit )

and then, after starting xTalk in commande line, you have the menu :

6) Initialize_Type_M_LTOC.xcs

And it works.

Best regards
Laurent
