I've run into a problem of late. For some strange reason, Bacula is
marking my tape USED in the middle of the nightly backup jobs. It just
started to do this over the last week. We rotate tapes daily and the
volume use duration is set to 12 hours. The first job kicks off at 5PM
but around midnight, it marks the tape as USED and wants a new tape. It
was my assumption that volume use duration began with the first write to
the tape (first job writing to tape at 5PM) and the tape could be used
for 12 hours (until 5AM). Our tape backups are done by 10-11PM every
night, but the tape is marked USED before they finish. We are running
multiple jobs at the same time using data and attribute spooling to a
LTO-5 tape. Below is a look at the volume last night that was marked
USED before the jobs completed. I'm sure it is some sort of timing
issue, but I'm not for sure where to look. Thanks for any help you
folks can provide.
