Hello,

The source code for Aligned volumes is not released, for the reasons you cite below.  The binaries are, however, available for a number of platforms, but only Bacula community supplied binaries built by a trusted person (a Bacula Systems employee) who has the source code.

The most specific answer on how you get the plugin is that you need the binary code (Dir/SD/FD) that is built by
the project.  Go to:

www.bacula.org -> Downloads -> Bacula Binary Package Download

Note, this means de-installing any current Bacula packages or binaries you have and installing the community
binaries.

Unfortunately, even if the Fedora packager had the source code, I am not sure he could distribute it because the aligned volume binaries are not free source software yet.  www.bacula.org can distribute those binaries because I feel that it is better to make them available for all the Bacula community users rather than to make you wait until the patent
is granted.

Best regards,
Kern

Hi,

I'm sorry to ask a question again that has probably come up before, but i still don't know under what circumstances one can use Aligned volumes with Bacula Community Edition.

.) http://bacula.us/block-level-deduplication-with-aligned-volumes-tutorial-bacula-7-9-9-0-and-above/ states that "This feature is available now for both Bacula Community (9.0.8 or greater) and Enterprise."

.) http://blog.bacula.org/whitepapers/DedupVolumes.pdf states that "The patent is still pending, consequently during this waiting period Bacula Systems has been advised not to provide source code, but does offer the community the binary plugin."

.) The RPM packages from https://copr-be.cloud.fedoraproject.org/results/slaanesh/Bacula/ don't contain bacula-sd-aligned-driver.so.

.) The source code for Bacula Community Edition contains EMPTY "aligned*" source files in src/stored/.

How do I get this plugin/driver for Bacula Community Edition?

thx
