In addition to vchanger and disk-changer, there is a built-in native
disk autochanger. Which of the methods to use depends on usage scenario.
The native disk autochanger requires no external script or
configuration, so is probably the way to go for fixed-disk storage. It
basically allows defining multiple Device resources that all use the
same directory as their ArchiveDevice. This is great for use with a
single directory on fixed disk or a single directory mountpoint to which
you mount one removable drive at a time. Use with multiple simultaneous
disks is possible by dividing jobs into separate pools and giving
volumes on each physical disk different MediaTypes.
Vchanger is suited to using removable drives, particularly to using
multiple simultaneously mounted removable drives as a single group of
volumes all having the same MediaType and with no restriction on the
number of pools, slots, or virtual drives. Also, it uses a dynamic
number of slots that requires no configuration changes. Vchanger can be
easily scaled without any changes to the Bacula config by simply
attaching another of its removable drives and issuing an Update Slots
command in bconsole.
The disk-changer script works similarly to a simplified vchanger. I
would always go with vchanger unless installing another app was going to
be an issue for some reason.
For USB drives, I would probably stick with vchanger.

recently setup a new machine with Ubuntu Server 16.04 and using Bacula
7.0.5. I have 2 usb drives that I want to do my backups on and read
somewhere that I could use the disk-changer script included with
Bacula 7 instead of the vchanger script. My question is can the
disk-changer script be used with less configuration than the vchanger
script needs, simply put if it's not broke don't fix it usually
applies so which would any of you recommend vchanger or disk-changer?
