Nevertheless could be worth a test case by case if ever possible.

BTW
Occasionally booting linux from a memory stick I use ntfsclone in
combination with a compression tool to backup system partitions of
Windows workstation clients over the LAN to a fileserver - I found using
pigz instead of gzip did speed up the backup process dramatically.
