Bacula does not restart a job at the
*exact* file where you stopped it. It works on a bit coarser
grain that that. I do not remember the exact details but maybe
someone can look at the code.

I wrote some code to issue the stops
for me, but the stop command is not behaving as I expected.
Here is an example:
list files jobid=2
Automatically selected Catalog: MyCatalog
Using Catalog "MyCatalog"
+----------+
Filename
+----------+
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/ReadMe.txt
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/copyright
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/inc/
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/docs/
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/lib64/C/icc/osslib/
|
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/lib64/C/icc/osslib/libcryptoIBM080.so.0.9.8

I was expecting that after issuing a stop command. these files
would not be backed up in the next attempt, but they are:
list files jobid=7
Automatically selected Catalog: MyCatalog
Using Catalog "MyCatalog"
+----------+
Filename
+----------+
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/ReadMe.txt
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/copyright
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/inc/
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/docs/
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/lib64/C/icc/osslib/
|
/usr/local/ibm/gsk8_64/lib64/C/icc/osslib/libcryptoIBM080.so.0.9.8

Am I missing something?

Hello, Daniel,
Since stop is a new command I don't think there is a "Max
Run Time" that stops job instead of canceling, yet. Probably
soon.
Maybe you can use shell scripting and cron as a
workaround, though. Or some tuning in order to backups don't
blow your backup window.
Regards,
Anyone have information on
this, it should be fairly simple.

Just trying to bulletproof
my backup here. Is there a way to set it so that if a
backup ceases due to "Max Run Time" that the backup
will end with a stop and not a cancel? Using 7.4
bacula now.

I
am trying to back up a large disk that is
greater than the size of the disk that I save
my data to (eventually it gets migrated to
tape).
The
issue is that I have it run for 16 hours at
max, but when those 16 hours end, it marks the
jobs canceled by user, and I cannot migrate it
to tape. Also when I run the job again, it
starts over from scratch instead of continuing
from where it left off. Is there a way to
change this? I have a feeling that if I
removed the time limit, I would hit the same
problem when the disk fills.
Hello, Daniel: canceled jobs cannot be
resumed, but you could do that if you use the
new 7.4 stop command. Another thing is you can
create more than one Job for this same machine
with different FileSet and different folders,
in order to split the backup workload /
migration process.
But since you are short on disk storage you
might consider using Disk Spooling instead of
backing up to disk and migrate, or even
directly to tape.
