Javier, Thanks for your reply. The problem I have is that the machine connected to the tape drive is a Windows machine which serves other purposes too. So that is why I was thinking of copying the volumes along with the catalog database to this and write to tape.

Will just the volume be enough or must I also dump the catalog and copy the sql file over and write both to tape. Is it possible to restore data from a full backup without the catalog/config files/bsr. Just the volume. Also I am confused about retention periods. I want to only keep data for 1 month (over 1 month will be written to tape). Should my File retention be 31 days and the Job retention be the same? Thanks in advance!
