Hijacking a thread is not acceptable - new thread on tape longevity statement.

Your assertion on longevity of tape is incorrect and I have a link for one
manufacturer that has their metrics across time and writes.

There are others out there for the various manufacturers and formats.

Other than SSD technology, disks have a hard time keeping up with the speed of
modern tape drives. Price point, tape is less expensive.

I have lost data on failed disk drives. I have not yet lost data on a backup
tape. What evidence do you have to support disk over tape for backups?

Hi!

I have a problem with my tape pool configuration.
I want to use exactly 12 LTO tapes (one tape per month).
After 12 month the oldest tape shall be reused without appending new data.

Other issues aside, you do realise that tape reliability claims are
based on the assumption you write the tape once, put it in (controlled
enviroment) storage and never take it out again, right? I.e. if you plan
on overwriting the same tape more than one or two times, you're better
off backing up to hard drives.
