The reason I ask is last week I had reached a point where I needed to start re-using old volumes. Which I was able to resolve by adjusting the Volume retention time. But I think when I did that it also overrides the job and file retention anyway, so it really was not a problem. I think I will use bconsole and see if I can determine if the job and file retention times are being used as expected.
