Jürgen,
Do you mean different retention times?  I assume this is what you mean
by "hold back".  In which case the answer is certainly yes, assuming
they use different pools (which they should).  For example, I retain
Full backups for year, differentials for a month, and incrementals for
two weeks.  You can specify volume retention on a pool-by-pool basis.
