Note that to back up these files directly you have to jump through special hoops: either use mysqlhotcopy or implement what it does (locks and flushes the tables in a given database) in a special client script, and then undo these changes in a post-backup client script. In other words, you can't reliably back up data files of a live database (with tables not locked and flushed). > How are you doing it ?
