You do not recall correctly. If there is an existing eligible
appendable volume, Bacula will use it.
Bacula's priority algorithm in selecting volumes goes something like this:
1. Currently mounted volumes, if appendable and eligible.
If not, then:
2. Other appendable volumes, if eligible.
If none, then:
3. New volume, if available for creation.
If no new volumes can be created, then:
4. Eligible recycled or recyclable volumes, if any.
If none, then:
5. Ask the operator to resolve the problem by providing or creating an
appendable volume or purging an old one.
