It is randomly generated when you install, so it might look like your typical hashed/encrypted password. This password is what is used to authenticate communication between the console and the director. There are other passwords like it for communication between DIR-FD or DIR-SD.
You can change the passwords to whatever you like, as long as you change them in both the director configuration and the relevant console, file daemon or storage daemon configuration.
