Thanks Martin :-) I tried installing the patch from the bug report without success.
Have downloaded your patch and will try using it this evening (on Slackware64 13.1). If it is not compatible I guess I can make the modifications manually and create a patch from them to suit building from bacula-5.0.3.tar.gz (generic source is used on Slackware).
