This comes up so frequently it should be a FAQ. Because Bacula (and other automated backup systems) reuse old volumes and keep track of stats for a tape volume on a long-term basis in order to detect when one may be failing, labelling by date is an INAPPROPRIATE METHOD.
Stop trying to bring your old hand-backup methods into an automated system and things will work smoothly. Bacula DOES know best.
