0xc8000232 is "hrMissingBackupFiles", and means "Some log or patch files are missing.". I've never seen it before. Is there anything in the event logs that looks like it might have more detail? Is anything else doing backups of Exchange (ntbackup?)? Have you recently changed the setting of 'circular logging' without doing a full backup?
