I'm not going to repeat the suggestions others have made, but why don't you just upgrade your ethernet to Gigabit speed? It's cheap to do generally. Setting up a point to point backup connection that runs at Gigabit speed shouldn't be too expensive.
Or the other option would be to add another storage daemon on your system with 1.5Tb and backup to a local tape drive.
