Had a similar issue using Celerra sourced NFS mounts on my Bacula box. I ended up simply using autofs/automount to get around it and so far it works fine (actually better than that, hasn't skipped a beat for months with the 16 or so shares we use). Am sure you could re-hash an auto.xxx file to suit.
