Good choice... although Bacula offers some of the functionality of TSM, it definitely is not a drop-in replacement... we'll need some time to achieve this ;-) > I've noticed a difference between bacula and tsm about file retention : > when in the TSM I define a JOB, i can set the retention period in this way : > 1) - The number of the version of any file I want to have > 2) - The number of the day I keep a file in the Backup after it was > deleted from the client. > > Example : If i set 3 version and 90 days, i have this specififc scenario : > 1) - I can restore the version that currently is last backed up from the > client. > 2) - I can restore the 2 old version of that file (either if it was > modified 2 years ago) > 3) - If I've deleted the file from the client, i miss the old version, > but I have 90 days left to restore the last backed-up file from the client. No, that's not possible now. > What I've to do for asking to implement this specific function ? A feature request would be required. Nothing spectacular - you find the procedure documented at http://www.bacula.org/en/?page=feature-request I believe that suggestion would be welcome - the feature is interesting. I believe, though, that it will need quite a bit of work, so you'd probably have to suggest a design yourself (which requires good understanding of how Bacula works internally, and what information is in the catalog) or sponsor the development. In either case you should first wait for a response to your feature request, and then discuss the details on bacula-devel. You can, of course, only submit the request and leave it for others to pick it up. > Thanks In Advance and excuse for my bad english. I think your English is quite ok - at least I believe I understood what you wanted :-) Cheers, Arno -- Arno Lehmann IT-Service Lehmann Sandstr. 6, 49080 Osnabrück www.its-lehmann.de ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Come build with us!
