Maybe this is a too basic question, but have you set the passwords correctly 
in different conf files? Not having done this would cause the different 
parts of the system not to be able to communicate with each other. However, 
this wouldn't be a syntax error so I guess it couldn't pop up in conf file 
test runs shown above.
