Why, I do not know.
That's rather simple to answer. Basically, Bacula only recycles a volume if it can't find any suitable volume to append to. This is done to protect the data as much as possible, by the way. So, if your tape is in state Append, Bacula will always append to it. If you want to make sure tapes are recycled earlier, than you have to do the following: - Set either the Volume Use Duration, Maximum Volume Bytes, or -Jobs to a reasonably low limit. - Set the retention times according to your backup cycle. - Make sure there are no other usable volumes available. If you've got a pool containing ten tapes, for example, but want to make sure tapes are overwritten even if you have less than these ten tapes filled, you can disable the volumes or move them to another pool. - Apply the changed default settings from the pool to the existing volumes. This can be done with the update command "Update all volumes from pool". >> 05-Dec 13:40 backup-dir JobId 151: Start Backup JobId 151, >> Job=holly.2007-12-05_13.40.11 >> 05-Dec 13:40 backup-dir JobId 151: Using Device "LTO-2" >> 05-Dec 13:40 backup-sd JobId 151: Volume "Tuesday1" previously written, >> moving to end of data. >> * >> * >> 05-Dec 13:42 backup-sd JobId 151: Ready to append to end of Volume >> "Tuesday1" at file=201. > > The above looks like the count mismatch has been fixed.
