All,
I have setup a pool of disk volumes
Pool {
Name = NAS1_Disks
Pool Type = Backup
Recycle = yes
AutoPrune = yes
Volume Retention = 27d
Volume Use Duration = 7d
LabelFormat = "${Pool}-${NumVols}"
}
The first backup written to this pool occurred on a Wednesday, and so the
next volume, was as expected created and used on the following Wednesday. I
now know the "Volume Use Duration" works as I'd expected. I'd like to know
if on day 28, the first volume will become recycled and available for use
again in the same pool? If I want the first volume to be reused, do I need
to add a "Maximum Volumes" directive to the pool (I'd like 4 volumes total),
or will Bacula see that there is a volume available and not create a new
one?
Also, since the first volume was created on a Wed, but ideally I'd like to
have the new volume creation and the old volume recycling occur on Monday
instead in order to fit to my migration strategy. How might I accomplish
this? I was thinking I'd have to do an update of the volume information and
calculate what the retention period would be to offset to Monday, but then
I'd have to reset that after the first reuse. Its confusing to me slightly.
My Migration strategy is to simply Migrate the enitre volume to tape at the
end of the week based on the volume name. I'm not sure if this is the best
strategy or if it might be better to do it by jobs. I think that could get
messy when I have 50 jobs though. Any suggestions?
Thank you again,
Shon
