No advice, but same problem.  server sb3 in a full backup takes 7 hours 
54 minutes backing up almost 18 million files totaling about 93GB, 3245 
KB/s.

Another server "mail", same hardware, full backup:  8 mins 18 seconds to 
back up 19,120 files totaling 23GB, 45623 KB/s.

The difference is that sb3 has tons of small files.  This is from 15KRPM 
scsi RAID1 drives to LTO3 tape in both cases, same operating system too.
