Using the reload command is totally fine. I have used it several hundred times in the 4 years I have used bacula at home and at work. The only thing is you probably want to issue a test first: bacula-dir -t /etc/bacula/bacula-dir.conf This will test if your changes to the config files are correct. A good reason for this is in the past if you issued a reload command from the console and your config file was bad bacula would crash. Testing eliminates this problem.
