mtx-changer is just a script which calls a command such as 'mtx'. Check whether mtx can handle your autochanger (you should be able to find this out from google or this list's archives). If not, your life is more difficult. If it can, you need to figure out what mtx-changer is doing that your autochanger doesn't like. The script is well commented and has a debugging option.
