Yes it is necessary and possible. Bacula theoretically also supports
'interleaving' (ie writting blocks from multiple jobs directly without
spooling) however this is not tested and not recommended. Spooling makes
it so that Bacula concurrently accumulated data from the different
clients and then despools it in large chunks to the tape.
