I am suspicious that perhaps my problem is Vista file permissions. I have
managed to get other windows (XP) machines on my network

to be able to access my Vista box's files, but I am still having trouble
using samba via the Linux box where the bacula server

resides to access the Vista files. I have set up the folders I am trying to
back up to be shared and accessible by everyone, but Linux still

does not seem to be able to properly open them. I would assume that if I
have problems using samba to access files, I would have similar

problems with bacula.

I have not yet figured out how to get the logs to be more verbose; I have
eliminated the !skipped option from the messages section in the client

conf file - is there another place I should be specifying the configuration
to be more verbose?

hi Jeff,

that looks right, do you have any more information in the bacula logs than
the message on the console?

if not, you may want to turn on the debug option on the client (you'll have
to look for that in the documentation as i don't remember) to get more
information about the problem.

one file has been backed up in your full backup according to the information
below, did you check (by using the restore command in the bacula console for
example) what file was that?

regards,

Yannick

I have tried various changes to the File= definition, I really want to
backup everything below username.

Fileset Definition for this pc, hp_notebook:

FileSet {

  Name = "HP_Notebook Documents"

  Include {

    Options {

      Compression = GZIP

      Signature = MD5

      Exclude = yes

      IgnoreCase = yes

      }

  File = "C:/Users/username/Documents"

  }

}

Thanks

hi Jeff,

can you show us your fileset definition?

from the backups we are running here, the only problem i have with Vista is
volume shadow copy not working with bacula client version 2.0.3.

i haven't upraded to the latest client yet.

Yannick

Subject: [Bacula-users] Vista PC not getting backed up

I am hoping someone can help.

Is the Win32 bacula version 2.2.1 capable of backing up a Vista PC? I have a
LAN, with the server being a Linux Debian Etch version 2.0.3.

This is where the director and storage daemons are running for the network.
Aside from that PC and the one in question, the others are all

Win XP boxes, which get backed up just fine. The client daemon on the Vista
machine is running OK, communicates with the server, etc.

and indicates that a full backup is occurring without errors, but only less
than 1kB is backed up. I specify in the director to back up

all files under c:/Users/username but nothing gets backed up. The director
conf file was previously set up for that machine when it was an XP

machine, however it was "upgraded" to Vista. The passwords, etc are correct,
the client daemon communicates OK. I'm stumped.

Here is an output from the console:
