Also use ethtool or vendor-provided low-level NIC utility to check if the card 
is indeed configured at 1MBit/s duplex mode and that RX/TX flow control is 
enabled (if available). Been there seen that, sometimes routers just drop 
speed or loose duplex mode on random ports out of the blue. You may need help 
from your IT dept to fix this if you are not the person responsible for 
networking at your site.
