Dear John May I ask if there are jobs queued waiting to be backed up. Also are you using MySQL.
I had a similar problem with2.0.3 - what I noticed is a job starting with high rate and as jobs got queued behind it the the rate declined and also the system started to consume swap space and eventually "died". With some advice from Arno Lehmann I installed the beta 2.1.28 and I have not had any problems. Arno had another tip is to give each scheduled job a different priority. I run concurrent jobs to disc with Full backups being migrated to tape - One benefit is as each job completes the remaining jobs through put increases - I have never seen this before - the rate just declined no doubt because the system was swap bound.
