Type 39 narrow width is, according to Alan, the most universally used bar code format for tape labels. You can create that format with some programs, and also with some label printers (Dymo or Brother are the ones I know). If you print them to 1/2" inch label tape, the barcode printer generated ones should work. If you prefer labels on paper, use a program like barcode and place the labels on the sheet. By chance, yesterday I found a small script to create tape labels on the Amanda wiki site. The program 'barcode' can create tables of barcodes as a postscript file. You'll have to look up the specifications for LTO tape labels or use the size of the labels you already have - I've only got the sizes for DLT here. Specifications for tape labels can be found, for example, at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpg29065/lpg29065.pdf?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN (pdf file) > i cannot even find any labels which will fit to/on tapes. Of course, you can always purchase labels from your supplier. For example, HP packs of labels (and also pre-labeled media). > any idea?
