I prefer to limit the volume use time (for tapes) or the size (for disk 
based volumes).

That way, things still work how I want it when there are jobs added or 
jobs don't run for whatever reason.

For tapes, I usually make sure all problems are fixed in a reasonable 
time, so after about 20 hours after the initail write to tape the foll 
job cycle is done. (This is just an example, don't take the numbers too 
serious.)

It doesn't matter if there are only 11 jobs on tape, when I decide that 
a client doesn't need a backup, or if there are 15 jobs if one client 
needed four tries to finish a backup.
