Well, as far as I can tell, it's not possible to simply use a CD drive instead of a DVD one. That's because the dvd+rw-tools only work with real DVD writers. Some major changes to the dvd-handler script would be necessary to implement CD writing with it. At least that was the state when I was working with it, but things might have changed...
