Hi,

I'll add my thoughts...

If you don't have the time, point them to the list. Or to me - at least
the German ones :-)

Hmm... if you consider lan-free to mean directing one storage system on
a SAN to dump data to another storage system directly, without the data
going through a server, then the answer is No.

Bacula is quite centralized - i.e., almost all the configuration is in
the DIR - but there are no advanced management tools available. Bat is
in development, the web frontends offer some features, but there is no
all-around solution from setup, configuration, pushing client installs,
to user management, automated volume handling, etc.

Only by using the OS tools (think QoS and different priorities, for
example).

Client run before scripts are the key. The missing function of
redirecting data on restore to another path (for example, to remove the
'./snapshot' path component) is being developed.

Only with console ACLs. This is not a sophisticated user management as
it doesn't allow to create groups, for example.

The need for such privilege handling is limited, though, because of the
centralized management and operation. Bacula really requires an
administraor or a team of admins, in larger installations.

For windows, using for example PE-based systems works, too. BartPE.

None included, probably because noone ever found a universal solution,
but you can achieve this using client run before scripts and backups
from FIFO.

Kind of... bcopy can copy media, but Bacula itself does not (yet) handle
multiple copies of jobs (or media).

>> - is disk-to-disk-to-tape supported?

Yes. Think migration.
