Are you sure the client can pass through the port 9103 (storage) and 9101 (dir) 
and the director (and the storage) is allowed to communicate through the port 
9102 of the client ?

I can pint the client and the client can ping the host.  I can even telnet
into the client and the client can telnet into the host on port 9102

The machines are on the same network.
