You may have to go with a slightly different approach to get data off of
the OS9 box. Way back (when I worked somewhere that still had OS9
boxes), we had a similar problem and ended up using a scheduled
AppleScript to mount a drive on a box that *could* be backed up using
client software and simply copying the data across.
Not the most elegant solution, but it actually worked surprisingly well,
although obviously there wasn't any bare-metal recovery functionality by
doing it that way. However at least the data was safe :)
I can't remember how we scheduled the scripting but I think it was using
a 3rd party (but freeware) extension/control panel or something as there
wasn't any way to schedule things like that via the system on OS9.
