Many thanks for this - I've upgraded now to 1.38.11 and although it is 
still very slow (the machine just isn't that fast!), I was able to 
complete the file listing successfully.

(I then had to abort the restore but that was for other reasons to do 
with the machine I needed to restore back to!)
