For everyone who has contributed thanks!! ... I seem to have everything working now, although I have NO idea what I did. Basically I figured since it's such a simple install I'll toast my existing client install and start from scratch. After doing this everything works. I kept a backup copy of the config files and compared them ... they were exactly the same pre-removal and post install and to verify I simply copied the old files over the new ones (after making a copy of them) ... after the re-install both config files work.
I have no idea what went wrong on the initial install (default installs on both) and I have no idea what changed but it's backing up as I type this.
