No, all the configuration of bsmtp is done on the command line. If it can't connect to your mail server you might have a firewall problem. Note that your mail server has to be configured to allow mail submission from your backup server. If you can use any mail program you can control through the command line you could also use that - bsmtp is a rather minimal mail submission program, and your standard /bin/mail might work better for you...
