Hi All,

my client has two SCSI tapes. One AIT3 (Sony-SDX700) and one AIT4
(Sony-SDX900). Both are external and connected to the same controller
(LSI Logic 53c1030) on one Channel. The bacula version is 1.36.3. Host
OS is SuSE Linux 9.2 with kernel 2.6.8.

This setup issues "Device at EOM" Errors from time to time. Sometimes
the jobs run without problems, sometimes not. The "Device at EOM" errors
appear on both tapes. Only one job is saved to the AIT-4 (the biggest
job) and the rest (5 more) to the AIT-3 tape. There is always only one
job run at a time.

I found the "Device at EOM" error on the mailing list and read about
checking that the tapes are running with Blocksize = 0. I found out that
the AIT-3 tape was running with a blocksize of 512. I changed this with
the mt tool but had still errors.

We tried this setup for about three weeks and then removed the older
AIT-3 tape from the config and disconnected it from the SCSI-bus. Since
then everything worked perfecty!

That is nice now but would be nicer if it was possible to use both tapes
again.

I found the last message on the mailing list with a similar error from
the end of 2005. So maybe an update of bacula / kernel would help!?

Thanks in advance.

Hans Ulrich
