Are you aware of any 'virtual tape drive' implementations that run under Linux? I think it's on the roadmap for IET (iSCSI Enterprise Target), but still vapourware at this stage, although I think I just saw a patch to implement a virtual DVD burner. It would be really nice to be able to run regression tests on a (virtual) tape drive, and to be able to simulate all sorts of failure modes to make sure they are handled gracefully.
