This sounds like you have the "classic" novel server setup, where the 
proprietary netware software is started using a DOS.

There's - as far as I know - no native FD for that platform.

You will have to mount the volumes to another machine with an FD to back 
them up. Storing the metadate like ACLs and whatever else there is will 
require the tools from netware (don't ask me...), restoring will 
probably be a process with many stages. You will probably only succeed 
with help from a Novell admin.

The other way - netware running on a linux, and offering its services 
through normal linux daemons - would make integrating an FD much easier. 
Most probably, you could run your backups directly on the server, and 
easily store and restore all filesystem data.

In your case, you'll need a helper machine where you run the SD, mount 
the netware volumes, and make sure all data not accessible through ncpfs 
or NFS is dumped to a file before you run the backups.

This is surely something where you need advice from a netware person.
