Don't change the name. :-) Suse has a patch to logrotate which changes the names of the logs based on date. This makes everything easier. Unfortunately logrotate is maintained by Redhat and the patch is not accepted on pure principle. AFAIK the patch is also accepted in Debian so it should be quite easy to find.
