That is also useful information, but no, I was referring to: http://bacula.org/rel-manual/Automated_Disk_Backup.html > > We thought we could avoid this way of configuring bacula, because each > pool contains about 46 volumes (5GB each as we have ~230GB per > day/pool). I unfortunately do not have the time to examine your problem in detail so I hesitate to make any recommendations. Perhaps someone else on this list can. I do use and recommend the scheme in the Automated Disk Backup chapter because I know it works. There may be better ways of doing it. I see absolutely no problem having 300 or so symliks in one directory. It costs you a trivial bit of extra overhead only when the Volume is opened. If you start getting into the 10s of thousands, then *maybe* you will have problems. However most Linux systems (such as mine) have btree directories so a huge number of files (10 thousand or more) in a single directory is quite workable, though I still would not recommend it. > > Our current setup involves ~30 Hosts which are being backed up every night. There is no problem using different directories in different Device resources as long as you put all the Jobs (Full, Incremental, Diff...) in a single directory possibly with symlinks if you want to use multiple disks AND you use a single Device for that Job. There is no problem having separate directories/disks and Devices for totally separate Jobs providing you have distinct (different) MediaTypes. > > > > > It is possible that this feature (using multiple devices in the Storage daemon > > during a restore) is implemented in version 1.39, but it is untested and not > > really supported. > If there's a way to avoid this feature, we don't need it ;) > > > > > Also, if you are using the same MediaType for all your storage devices, you > > will eventually have additional problems.
