Most likely you entered a blank command, > which is not valid. I am not aware of having entered a blank command. Here's what I did: # btape -c /etc/bacula/bacula-sd.conf /dev/nst0 Tape block granularity is 1024 bytes. btape: butil.c:272 Using device: "/dev/nst0" for writing. btape: btape.c:338 open device "SDX-400C" (/dev/nst0): OK *test === Write, rewind, and re-read test === ... === Test Succeeded. End Write, rewind, and re-read test === === Write, rewind, and position test === ... === Test Succeeded. End Write, rewind, and re-read test === === Append files test === ... CORRECT OUTPUT === Write, backup, and re-read test === ... Block re-read correct. Test succeeded! === End Write, backup, and re-read test === === Forward space files test === ... We should be in file 5. I am at file 5. This is correct! === End Forward space files test === And then the program just hung in there showing a single asterisk for about 15 minutes until I decided to say: quit. *quit Orphaned buffer: 16 bytes allocated at line 276 of btape reserve.c Hmmm, it dawns to me that everything was fine and I, believing the program was stuck, hit "return" to see, if it still responds. Seems it was waiting for input and and I just didn't regognize the asterisk as "back at the shell prompt". Right? My mistake?
