The problem workstation runs WinXP SP2+all the up-to-date fixes and a
copy Norton AV 2005. I disabled it last night, and voila -- no problem.
Other similarly configured systems with Norton AV 2006 or greater don't
seem to exhibit the problem. If Torsten needs a test box to play with
that reliably exhibits the problem, I think I can make it accessible to
him.

Which version of OS/400? It was different in different releases. (BTW,
that's *midrange* -- zSeries is big...8-)) General answer is in the
gateway statements in the TCP config file; you can manipulate it via the
panel interface or edit the dataset directly. It can also be on the link
and device definition statements (override in gateway). The syntax is a
bit bizarre, so I'd recommend using the panel interface. Let me know
what release of OS/400 or i5OS it is off-list, and I can probably be
more specific.
