I believe I found the source for this problem. At one point during testing (trying to get as much performance as I could) I had the Maximum Block Size  and  Minimum Block Size set to 256K. And now this setting has been removed. Now because bacula uses a variable blocks instead of fixed blocks every tape that was labeled with this setting must be deleted and relabeled otherwise I get the same error.

Thanks. I'll file this in my head for future reference.  At least you seem to
have resolved the problem, and perhaps Arno is right it is just a symptom of
a blank tape.
